We are Frijoles Locos and are here to make sure your vacation in Playa Grande is everything you want it to be. Over the past few years,Ian and Corynne Bean have, through their respective passions, helped contribute to the vacation experience of many travelers.

    We love living in this beautiful place, and we love living and working together, as well as being able to spend time with our newest addition, our baby boy Finnegan who is destined to be a surfer too! We have been told that we inspire people to seek out a less stress filled lifestyle, which is certainly possible when you live what you love.

IAN BEAN

    Ian is an experienced surfer, surf judge and surf instructor, having grown up in Florida with two parents that surfed and were keen to show him early on what a great sport it is!  Over the last couple of years, in addition to teaching surfing, Ian has also been a tour guide/ instructor for a vacation package provider, ensuring the best possible vacation experience for his guests.

In 1994 Ian achieved 2nd place Longboard at the US Championships.

In 1995 at the US Championships, Hawaii he  placed 5th in the Longboard event.

1996 East Coast Championships, 1st place Masters Short-board (over 25 year olds). 1996 US Championships, 2nd place Masters Short-board, 4th place Masters Longboard.

    In 2001, 2002 and 2005, Ian was announced as Best Judge for the East coast. In 2003 Ian was Head Judge for the Costa Rican national surfing circuit.

    Ian’s success as a surf judge, in the US at a professional surfing level makes him an ideal surf instructor. An eye for detail in his surfing lessons, makes sure that any bad habits are identified early on, ensuring a faster path to becoming a better surfer.

CORYNNE BEAN

    Corynne Bean is a Certified Massage Therapist and Naturopath who completed her training in Sydney, Australia. Her education in Naturopathy and passion for a healthy lifestyle is the impetus behind establishing El Frijol Feliz Spa, and relocating from the hectic pace of Sydney, to the tranquil setting of Playa Grande, Costa Rica.

    Corynne has written articles for Sydney based publications, worked as a Naturopath in “The Modern Apothecary”, a visionary concept borne of the need to make natural therapies more accessible to the general public, as well as working as a Naturopath in Apotheke 20-20 in London, as well as pharmacies in Sydney.

    Corynne is enthusiastic to share her knowledge of complementary medicine with anyone who is interested, in the hope of increasing health-related awareness of alternatives to people from all over the world.

TOGETHER

    Ian and Corynne Bean developed the idea of Frijoles Locos early 2005. With luck, the perfect location became available, located inside of Playa Grande Estates. After a couple of years of experiencing the building and permitting process first hand in Costa rica, the fruits of their labor has finally been born!

    Located a short walk to the beach, next door to Playa Grande School, and just around the corner from the wonderful “Kike’s Place”, Frijoles Locos provides the local and tourist community alike with not only a full-service surf shop, but a professional massage and beauty centre too. To complete the package deal, upstairs are two beautiful apartments where you can stay and enjoy everything that Playa Grande has to offer.
